OOIL’s Technology is a Game Changer and the Stats are There to Prove It!
Last week OriginOil’s EWS Technology was highlighted in an article from Energy Global. Not only has the company been able to demonstrate how its Electro Water Separation™ (EWS) can be a high-speed, chemical-free process to clean up large quantities of water, but it also has done so with very low energy cost. Even during large-scale testing at a salt water disposal well in Western CO, the EWS technology was proficient in treating frac flowback and produced water.
“We knew from early lab tests that our energy usage was very low, but now in the field, we see that the numbers are even more impressive than expected. Our Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) averaged 0.22 kWh per barrel including pumping and membrane energy,” explained Lee Portillo, OriginOil VP of Engineering.
In an identical test of Halliburton’s “CleanWave Mini-Water Treatment System”, the company’s technology published an energy usage of just over 0.56kWh per barrel…This is 60% more energy usage compared to OriginOil’s CLEAN-FRAC system. For this reason, the OOIL technology could be a HUGE gamechanger for the industry as a whole!
Mr. Portillo continued to say, “While using less energy than a leading competitor, CLEAN-FRAC also removes a greater percentage of contaminants, while eliminating most bacteria and dissolved organics, a real challenge in high-volume applications. CLEAN-FRAC is the optimal solution for chemical-free oil and gas water treatment.”
On 27 May 2014, a showcase was held at the headquarters of OriginOil licensee, Industrial Systems Inc. (ISI) on Colorado’s Western Slope, which featured the CLEAN-FRAC™ field scale system designed to process frac flowback and produced water at a rate of up to 1500 bpd, to the exact purity levels that customers require.
More importantly, the latest surge in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) has created a whole new industry with its own set of demands, challenges and constraints for the use, supply, treatment and disposal of water. According to EPA estimates, 70 to 140 billion gallons of water were used in 2011 alone in fracking wells.
Best of all for OOIL especially with this latest breakthrough is that BCC Research reports the market for equipment to treat wastewater from fracking operations and conventional wells is predicted to grow 9 percent by 2018!
CLEAN-FRAC integrates OriginOil’s EWS with a multitude of “polishing” systems to deliver a wide range of purity levels that enable different reuse applications from re-injection into frac wells to potable drinking water. These systems include membranes, filters and resins. CLEAN-FRAC is commercially available as an integrated system for end to end solutions and at capacities up to 10,000 barrels per day opening up a wealth of opportunity for the company to push into bigger markets and gain incredible notoriety after posting numbers like it did when compared to the system from Halliburton!
